Vigilance Blade

Have no fear, crowbar is here!

“Crowbar” Crogan cliimbed the surviving section of Aberians Folly so that he could get a birdseye view of the conflict he could hear raging on the other side. The rest of his crew was disposing of some men in black leather armor. They fought valiantly but where outmatched and when Thane Eysizen summoned a Grizzly Bear in the singing tieflings face, she dissapeared beneath a mountainous flurry of claws and teeth. One rouge joined the fray from inside the structure but soon dedided to run north, the group decided to let him go. Little did they know that very rouge had taken Bluehoods looted Bluehoods body and taken the boots off her coorpse along with her spell componant pouch and coin purse, and the icey burst mace. Although thankfully leaving the Mythral trident, either because he didnt recognize the true value or because he diecided it would be too cumbersome remained unclear. One rouge remained as a small halfling magically flew out of the structure and looked about in disbelief. “You killed everybody?” he said. “You killed the bard?” He said incredulously “Your more powerfull than they let on.” He landed and pulled a harrow deck from his pocket before drawing three cards from it. He turns around and tells the remaining council rouge that he’s sorry and it is nothing personal before blasting the poor sod with scorching rays of fire that jet from his palms. “Look theres no need for us to kill each other” he says with a grin “perhaps we can work together.”

Council Rogues

The party made it’s way over to the entrance of the Nessian Spiral which was now exposed to the outside. The large Black Stone door stood closed on a section of the manor that survived the explosion. The dispatched some hidden rogues before attempting to open the door which caused an earsplitting sound that injured those standing next to it. They did find a door that was open and discovered a small room with two staues covered in sheets. Two more doors led off tof his room but it was at this time that Vitti returned with the help he promised to get and it was decided that the party would help some of the wounded and transport the paralysed debutaunt saftley back to her family, before entering the spiral and trying to stop the imprisoned pit fiend from escaping. The Scallios were grateful to Vigilane Blade for returning with their daughter and awarded the group a large pile of gold along with a mytril trident that had been in their family for generations. They returned to the safehouse only to find crowbar had left town in search of more information on how to more easily hurt the high ranking devils with physical weapons. Many of the low-ranking members of Vigilance Blade agreed to return to destroyed manison so that they might overwhelm any possible foes with sheer numbers. More thieves were encountered and bluehood levitated onto the roof to try and stop one of the thieves from alertng the compund. She was to slow however and ran threw an open door on the other side of the building only to be surrounded by shadows that leeched the very strength from her. Kalaive barked an order out to Rizzardo, the largest of the low-ranking members except for perhaps Edmondo the Blacksmith, and he sprinted after Bluhood. Gala tended to the wounded Tarvi who had run up to her with a bolt stuck in her shoulder. Some Lemures appeared and attacked when much of the group was sunddenly hit with a confusion spell and a soft lilting voice could be heard singing as a strangely familiar female appeared 40 feet away. She had orange skin with tiger stripes and was well armed. Kalaive Stabbed himself with his own weapon. What foul sorcery was this! Kalaive felt his mind spin as he withdrew the blade from his own flesh, and the group found themselves wishing that they once again had Crowbars help as things started to turn grim.

Vampires and Devils

Our intrepid explorers made thier way past the rubble that had spilled out onto the cobblestone street from the exploded mansion. The pillars of flame still shot up through the clouds and smoke. Gala held the Morrowfall out in front of her, although it’s light was barely disernable in the afternoon sun. They could see that the large wrought iorn gates from the front entrance had smashed into the gatehouse of a nieghboring mansion. It finally settled into a twisted heap, but not before demolishing an entire corner of the gatehouse. With a large section of wall down Vigilance Blade was able to enter the one story building and soon discovered a swarm of bats that was using one of the storage rooms as a lair. Bluehood started to torch the bats with alchemist fire as the rest ot the party discoverd a gaurdroom full of Marthis gaurds. They and the room they were in were covered in oil. The gaurds attacked immediately, but were soon subdued, bleeding or unconcious. The single gaurd left standing pulled a bottle of alchemist fire from his pack and jumped onto a table before attempted to use the mixture to ignite himself and the oil covered room by smashing it onto the ground. Kalaive knocked the bottle out of the dominated gaurds hand and it landed with a thud onto the table he was standing on but it miraculouslydid not break. Kalaive grappled and pinned the gaurd before tieing him up and lowering him out of a nearby window. The bound gaurd rambled on about how the master would soon destroy them anyways, but armed with the morrowfall they were able to easily destroy the vampire when he finally showed after they began tearing up the floorboards. The gaurd soon came to his sences after the vampire died and they released him so that he could fetch some Dottari to help. They started heading for another nearby gatehouse owned by the Rastovian family. The twenty-foot tall structure had weathered the nearby explosion quite well, and seemed undamaged. There was a report of a devil being spotted in that area and so the group decided to check it out. As they made their way over to it, an erynies landed on a nearby rooftop and folded her jet black wings. She wore black shiny leather and sported a pair of spiked high heels. She then landed next to Kalaive and casually strolled past Bluehood and Thane before approaching Gala. Thane protested as the creature went to touch Gala, and she threw a rope made of her own hair at him. It seemed alive as it attempted to entagle him but he was able to pull it off and throw it on the ground where it wriggled and writhed. The eryines was already in the air and flying away when Gala cast a blindness spell on it. It started flying erratically, but continued towards the Rasdovian gatehouse. Kalaive chopped the wiggling hair rope in half and it stopped moving. He then set his glaive on his shoulder and led the group towards the blinded Erynies who had landed on the roof of the structure. With the help of Crowbars Rope of climbing Kalaive scrambled to the roof and slew the Erynies who was blind but still had alot of fight left in her. Crowbar easily climbed the structure and kept Kalaive informed on the combat below while pestering foes with his bolts. Eventually, a bone devil appeared and the battle turned even more fierce. The Devil told Crowbar that he remembered killing him before and that he would do so again. Badly wounded the Bone Devil teleported inside the Rosdovian Gatehaouse and drank a stash of healing potions. Crowbar was feeling a little freaked out about the teleporting Bone devil that could go invisable at will popping up and killng him like it had done inside the safehouse, so he was glad when Bluehood suggested he return to his library and discover what type of weapon could hurt these things as they seemed highly resistant to physical damage from any of their current weaapons. The bone devil suddenly appeared and chuckled before letting two giant Lemures out of the gatehouse by pulling a lever. Kalaive and Inglip rushed in to fight them at the chokepoint and were soon seperated from the rest of the party by a 25 foot tall wall of ice that connected to the gatehouse on either end. Thane and Gala chipped away at the wall while the front line hacked the giant lemures into tiny pieces. By the time the created a hole big enough the fight was over and Vigilnce blade was able to drive the wounded Devil away. For now. They soon discoverd some rooms filled with paralyzed victums of the bone devils stinger. Thane recognized one of the women from the mayors lavish dinner who had gone missing some days before, and suggested that perhaps there would be a reward given for her safe return.

What the %$#& was that?
Inglip carried bluehoods body as the party made their way through the streets unmolested by the dottari or any hellknights. Most of the Westcrowni citizens were indoors already, in preparation of nightfal and the dangerous shadowgaurms that often stalk the city streets at night. A few stragglers spot the grim procession, but only silently watch them pass without raising any alarm. Finally back at the safehouse they collapse in thier beds and in the morning explain what happened inside of Delvehaven before setting about the task of raising Bluehood from the dead. Ailyn Ghonstavos offers to petition the elder pathfinders in Absolom for her ressurection as she had given her life to procure the Morrowfall. When the party explains that she will be needed here to help defend Westcrown, she suddenly stops Ermelios from wrapping Bluehood in a sheet long enough to look through Bluehoods pack and finds a bag containing many platinum coins. The rest of the party gathers even more coin from amoungst themselves and they soon have enough to purchase a raise dead scroll. Areal the leader of Vigilance Blade and an elf, himself a cleric of Iomede who bears many magical potions give Rizzardo and Vitti some potions of bullstrength, which they quickly drick before easily slinging the corpse onto their shoulders. They toss her down on the table of a local chapel devoted to Desna, as Gala Wimblesnippet uses the raise dead scroll sussesfully on the remains of her friend. Bluehood claws her way out of the sheet, and is helped to her feet. She is alive again but states that she feels worse than dead and begins rubbing her head while complaining of a headache. She states that she will need to go back to her hideout and obtain some gold for a restoration spell and to wash the blood from her body and clothes. Promising to return the next morning, she takes her leave and limps across the street before removing a sewer grate and jumping in. The rest of the group divide up their treasure, and as Kalaive “The Glaive” is examining the mythril rapier known as Whisperslash, “Crowbar” Crogan starts counting the many lanterns he absconded with from one of the chambers in delvehaven. A few hours pass when there is suddenly a huge explosion, and many of the items within the temple start to rattle. Even the stand upon which rest the,“Book of Acts” nearly falls off the alter before Janiven rushes over to steady it. “Crowbar” Crogan dashes to the front door and peeks his head out. A mushroom cloud rises above the buildings to the southwest and he sees what looks like yellow eyes of flame and teeth made of cinder and ash on the surface of the expanding cloud. Thane Eysizen soon joins him at the door and quickly shuts it should they be spotted. He explains that from this vantage point he figures that the explosion is probably hovering over Aberian’s Folly. The strike team quickly gathers their tresure and pulls their hoods on before heading towards the esplosion. Gala Wimblesnippet withdraws the Morrowfall and holds it up, it’s intense light turning the night to day within a 60’ radius. Bluehood soon joins them, floating down from a nearby rooftop, apparently roused from sleep by the explosion. A shadowgaurm appears in the street ahead, but seems staggard by the Morrowfalls light and easily dispatched by Bluehood’s trident. The mushroom cloud has been replaced by five pillars of fire that extend up into the sky and disappear into the clouds. Gala Wimblesnippet sees a dark shape come out of a nearby alley. It is Aberian Arvanxi, the mayor of Westcrown. He looks horrible, and he has many cuts and bruises. He gets down on one knee and pleads for her group to help him, seemingly oblivious to the fact that they are the cast of, “The Six Trials of Larazod.” and recognizing them only as Vigilance Blade. He explains that he saw their light and headed towards it in hopes of avoiding any shadowgarms who may be about. A Dottari gaurd is attracted to Gala Wimblesnippet light as well and the mayor swiftly hides behind a nearby barrel. The gaurd approaches the party and upon seeing their red hoods, he tells them that he knows who they are and they should get indoors and leave this to the professionals. After the gaurd leaves, the mayor asks the group for somewhere they can talk unobserved, and they enter the sewers before entering a room equipped with some shovels and a sturdy table. Thane Eysizen steps up to the mayor an snatches the his dagger from him before demanding answers. The mayor initially protest his being disarmed, but soon complies and retrieves a scroll and some papyrus from a leather bag at his waist. He mournfully explains that he’s home has exploded, destroyed by the failing infernal engine underneath it. After pulling some chalk from his pocket, he starts to draw a crude map of the east wing. Apparently the only section of the structure still standing. He explains that the pit fiend at the center of the engine is escaping and that they are the only ones that can save Westcrown. The scroll in an infernal contract drawn up by the diabolist of Thrune and bearing his name as well as the two mayors before him. He explains that to approach the infernal engine they would have to enter the Nessian Spiral, and to enter the Nessian Spiral at least one of them must sign the contract. The group decides to purchase more equipment before attempting to enter such a hazourdus place and Kalaive “The Glaive” approaches Ermelios with a large stash of platinum to discuss the possibility of adding devil bane to Whisperslash, as mythril is known to act much like silver, which makes it deadlier to devils than ordinary steel. The rest of the group purchase some scrolls and potions before meeting back at the safehuse. Kalaive “The Glaive” explains that his demon bane defending mythril rapier should be ready in the morning, and it is agreed that they will leave when the sun rises. The next morning, while walking under the streets of Westcrown within the citys sewer system, they witness some Hellnights arguing with a Dottari Liuetenent about jurisdiction. Twelve minutes later they are climbing an iorn ladder and slipping onto the surface streets. They soon happen upon a group of Dottari Gaurds and the liuetenent who leads them. From this close to the manor it is obvious that the pillars of fire are arranged over the demolished mansion as if each where placed over the points of a huge five pointed star. As their leader motions you over to a nearby tent, the guards continue working. Some of them are dragging a rain barrel to help brace an enormous barracade of wagons and crates they have built to block the street and offer some cover from any attacks originating from the manor. Some of the gaurds are sharpening big pieces of wood and shoving them through the makeshift wall, while another nails a wooden ladder to the structure to allow one of them to easily scale the barrier from this side to see over it and a gaurd does indeed take his position at the top as you enter the officers tent. He tells you that if you want to help you can enter a nearby stone structure and search for a vicious looking devil that was said to have entered it soon after the explosion. It had wings devoid of any flesh and a long scorpion-like tail. He says that an Erinyes has been spotted flying above westcrown. An erinyes is a devil who takes the form of a beautiful woman clad in leather with large feathered wings as black as pitch, and sharp fangs that show themseles when they smile or laugh. A smile or laugh filled with cruelty and often sparked by the torture of mortal souls. As the Luietenent is explaining this Kalaive “The Glaive” sences that the liuetenent is enchanted by a domination spell, similar to those used against them when confronted by the vampires. He grabs the officer and wrestles him to the ground. He sreams for the gaurds and as Gala Wimblesnippet starts epending charges from her break enchantment wand Inglip moves to block the entrance to the tent. “Crowbar” Crogan Crowbar quickly slices a hole in the tent to grant him a quick escape should the need arise. Thane Eysizen convinces the gaurds that the liuetenent is charmed and Gala Wimblesnippet thankfully succeds in bringing him back to his sences. He immediately starts sobbing and directs them to a gaurdshack that stands near the entrance to another huge manor in the area. A vampire has made his lair there and has been feeding on the locals and using him to watch for thier arrival. He says the creature apparently knows that you would eventually show up, and that it is the thrall of something called, “The Master of Midnight.”

Head towards the light

A dire rat peeks around the corner of the hall perched on top of one of the shattered vault doors. You lead the blinded Kalaive into the stairwell and Inglip joins him there after bringing Bluehoods body upstairs in case they needed to grab her and make a retreat.“Crowbar” Crogan, Gala Wimblesnippet, Thane Eysizen gather behind the front line gaurding the stairwell as the two vampires continue to hack their way through the doors to the east. Inglip decides to kill the the dire rat that is watching you and leaps over to it delivering a devestating bite to the rats chest. This draws the attention of yet another vampire who runs down the hallway to save the dying beast. Gala Wimblesnippet asks to see the Morrowfall and when she touches it she instantly knows how to operate the artifact and hears the name Easivra inside of her head. The two vampires to the east hack through one of the doors and start dispatching lemures before heading over to where Vigilance blade took up a defensive position in the stairwell. Gala Wimblesnippet notices that this newest vampire weilds two wooden stakes and attempts to parlay with the creature thinking that perhaps it was hunting vampires as well. She is soon mentally dominated by the dangerous vampires mind and is given the command to bring it the Morrowfall. Kalaive reaches out blindly and grabs her arm with one hand, her hair with another and begging her to come to her sences. The female vampire tending to her rat uses this opportunity to staunch it’s bleeding, and satisfied that her pet will live, starts after the group as well. Gala fights off the enchantment when ordered to attack Kalaive “The Glaive”. It is not long until the party decides to head for the sunlight two floors above, as sunlight is commonly thought to destroy vampires, all the while Gala is blasting the vampires with light from the morrowfall. Inglip is dominated at one point but snaps out of it when asked to attack his master. Two of the vampires are forced to retreat after being repeatedly blasted by the artifact, and the third must stop short of entering the first level because of the sunlight streaming throu the window upstairs.

Mad Dash for the Morrowfall

A blue light appears at the top of the stairs and makes it’s way down to Thane as the summoner conjures up three small fire elementals and a haste spell. The elementals began cutting a swath through the crazed vermin, and at first the strange rats with the maze-like designs in their fur shy away from the flames. You hear Bluehood’s voice as she tells you to grab some of the wooden splinters from the smashed doors to use as stakes should you drive the vampires to their coffins. Suddenly, bats start pouring out of the hallway to the west and you see Bluehood become visable as she throws a vial of alchemist fire at them. A large, brutish and heavily tattoed vampire sweeps out into the hallway holding a heavy reapeating crossbow equipped with bayonets. His skin bears the same mazelike designs that the rats have. The rats again throw themselves at the elementals with renewed vigor at the sight of mazeflesh man. Blood and foul gore drip off his face and chin were he has apparantly been feeding. Large fangs gleam as he curses you and backs down the hallway firing bolts in your direction all the while and hitting Bluehood in the shoulder with one. Meanwhile Gala Wimblesnippet is leading the blinded and badly wounded fighter known asKalaive “The Glaive” up to the front lines. Explaining that she will guide his attacks as best she can, stopping only long enough to heal him with a wand before sending him into battle. The mazefleash man comes to a door and immediately opens it, but not before shooting Bluehood once again with a bolt from his deadly-looking repeater. Three large wolves leap out of the room as he enters it and after kiliing them with the help of a blind but still effective Kalaive “The Glaive” and the summoners pet Inglip you discover yet another vampire with the mazefleash man in the room. This one wears a heavy cloak and is wielding a shortsword. The powerful creature easily dispatchs the last of the fire elementals and attempts to follow Thane west.Thane Eysizen does his best to block the door with summoned creatures known as lemures, as Bluehood anounces that she is going to make a run for the artifact in hopes of using it against the vampires. She is blasted by the Morrowfall and dies just a few feet from it, but gives “Crowbar” Crogan the opportunity to sprint in behind her. It burst again with light as he reaches for it but does not blind the quick halfling as he is able to cover his eyes with his left arm while grabbing the Morrowfall off of it’s pedestal. The artifact immediately seems to calm, It still glows brightly but is no longer crackling and sending out dealy sunbeams in random directions or dousing the room in sudden flashes of deadly light. To the east, the vampires are working their way past the lemures as “Crowbar” Crogan examines the artifact in hopes of learning how to us it.

The Morrowfall
The party proceeded to the large double doors after having dispatched Bisby’s Haunted skeleton and stuffing his skull into the haversack along with the many treasures he once gaurded. “Crowbar” Crogan withdrew one of the keys found earlier inside the The Wave Door. The door opened into a very brightly lit room. Many laterns hang from the ceiling and each one radiating white light. A large stone desk sits in this empty room bearing tiny symbols and runes carved into it’s surface. Across from the doors you entered is another door bearing the face of a demon, and with runes similar to the ones on the desk. seemingly carved into the door itself. With the help of the entire party and “Crowbar” Crogan crowbar, they managed to move the stone desk after “Crowbar” Crogan noticed that it sat over a hole. Suddenly laughter filled the room as the door across from them opened spewing smoke and bursting with light. Inglip stepped forward and was soon attack by an invisable beast with savage claws. Kalaive “The Glaive” stepped into the fray as the others helped, but tried to stay away from the invisable beast. After defeating the monster they proceeded down the stairs. Flashes of light from the bottom of the stairs pierced the darkness. Some vampire spawn were waiting at the bottom of the stairs and immediately attacked, although one of them turned gaseous and swept under a nearby door. Down the hall the Morrowfall shone with amazing brightness. It looked as though the vampire spawn had busted down three sets of doors to get to it only to be driven away by the brilliant light of this minor artifact. Kalaive “The Glaive” decide to make a sprint for the Morrowfall but was driven away by painfull rays of lght that suddenly sprung out of the eagle-headed shaped artifact. Inglip dashed in to help only to find himself also falling victim to the blasts of light. As the last of the vampire spawn fell to Thane Eysizen as Gala Wimblesnippet ducked into a side passage that the vampire spawn had apparently carved out in an attempt to approach the Morrowfall from another direction. Suddenly, thousands of rats started to pour out from under the door that the gaseous vampire spawn entered. The fur of these rodents is covered in black maze-like designs.

Bisby's Skull

Our brave heros continued down the hallway of the abondoned pathfinder lodge and discovered a tavern where the soulbound dolls were staging some sort of strange funeral for the dragon pull toy apparantly named Draggy. If it was a funeral the soulbound dolls were not behaving themselves as they pushed each other down and threw bottles of wine at each other. They were quickly dispatched by our heros. Amoung the clutter inside the tavern you discovered a crude table and chairs built out of scavenged parts set up as if for a childs tea party, and crowbar discovers a secret door behind the bar. Crowbar decides to check the rest of the room for secret doors or compartments, while his partners continue through the secret passage. They soon discover the hideout of the Amber Privetters, and after lifting a few scrolls shaped like origami birds they discovered an amulet with a dogs head and a womans body. The sorcerers pet inglip now wears it, having given the golembane scarab to Kalavie. They followed the sratch marks to a large iorn door. Crowbar returned just as Thane tried to destroy the hinges with acid splash, only to discover that they self healed! Crowbar eventually opened the door by pulling out his masterwork toolkit.(Of course, he could have also used the key that they had obtained from the chest inside the Wave Door, but that would have been to boring!) Inside bisby’s skeleton was seated in front of a pile of treasure and his skull attacked the party after Thane sent Inglip to snatch a wavefinder that was still clutched in the withered corpse’s hand. Two shadows also spawned, but they were eventually defeated while Inglip kept the Bisby’s skull busy by smashing to bits everytime it would miraculously reform itself. After the shadows faded Bisby Skull stopped screamimg “Theives!” and slowley came to a rest on top of his body, which was still seated in front of the assorted “treasures.” After looting his corpse and clearing the room of any valuables they could find, Bisby’s skull thanked them and grew silent. There is another set of iorn doors with a keyhole in them that they have yet to explore…

Haunted Haven

The Vigilance Blade strike force returned to the safe house and placed the books they had looted out of the Delvehaven library into Crowbars workshop. They also read some of the books found that bestowed various abilities and rested for the night before exploring yet another level of Delvehaven. They soon discovered that Delvehaven was haunted when they were attacked by phantasmal bugs from the insect museum and Kalaive was later possessed by the spirit of Bisby when they entered a room full of model ships were some of the party members saw a flashback of Bisby arguing with Ilnerik on the deck of a ship. Kalaive was able to resist the urge to attack his fellow party members long enough to leave the room and they gathered in the hallway before continuing on.

There were some bizarre constructs in the main courtyard that looked like childrens toys. They became visable only after jumping off a strange cylindrical metal stage that sits in the center of the courtyard area. After engageing the strange toys a will-o-wisp entered the area and turned invisable after being struck by an arrow. It soon attacked and was killed. The party investigated much of the first and second floors, fighting off a large triceritops shadow skeleton, and looting some of the valuable items that were left behind by the Thrune pathfinders.
